<p>26.08.91 Linux Torvalds schreibt im Usenet-Forum comp.os.minix,
dass er ein freies Betriebssystem für x86-kompatible Rechner als
Hobbyprojekt erstellt. Es wäre kein Riesen-Ding, wie das
GNU-Projekt und es ähnelt teils Minix, v.a. beim Dateisystem. Die
Bash Shell und der GNU C-Compiler gcc wären bereits fertig. Hier
beginnt die öffentliche Geschichte von Linux.</p>

<p>Ich hatte meinen Erstkontakt mit Linux im Neumarkter Bürgernetz
1997. Damals gab es zu Beginn ein paar Analog-Modems und einen
Linux-Server/Router auf Basis Slackware, später SUSE Linux. Hier
entstand auch die erste Linux Usergroup in Neumarkt. Vom
Bürgernetzverein war bald nach Auslauf der Fördermittel nichts
mehr übrig und die LUG zerstreute sich.</p>
<p>Ich bin selbst 1998 mit SUSE Linux 5 am eigenem PC gestartet, da
hier die Unterstützung für ISDN gegeben war. Als Erinnerung an die
Zeit habe ich mir noch die <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://otmanix.de/lgs/">inoffizielle Homepage des
Bürgernetzvereins für die Landesgartenschau 1998</a> aufbewahrt.<br>
